Welcome to the home page for the Champaign County Law Library. We are located in Room 243 on the second floor of the Champaign County Courthouse at 101 East Main Street, Urbana, IL.
Law Library hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on County holidays. The Law Library Clerk is available from 10:00 to 2:00 on those days. Please note that Law Library staff will not provide legal advice; for legal questions, please contact a licensed attorney.
The Law Library was established pursuant to 55 ILCS 5/5-39001 . Operations are funded through a $17 Law Library fee assessed to civil litigants at the time of initial pleading.
The Mission of the Champaign County Law Library is to provide access to legal research materials to members of the public, lawyers, judges and other county officials in order to facilitate the just and equitable disposition of cases heard in Champaign County.

The Champaign County Law Library is a non-circulating facility, which means no materials may be taken from the building except by licensed attorneys/members of the bar with the consent of Library staff. There is no publicly accessible copy machine so all research using Law Library materials must be conducted on the premises.
Law Library staff are not authorized to make copies, print documents, or provide access to the secure areas of the courthouse for anyone, including attorneys.
Rules
- Law Library materials are NEVER to be removed from the Courthouse. No materials may be removed from the Law Library without permission from the law library clerk.
- The Law Library computer is accessible on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to legal research. Use of the computer by library personnel has top priority. Internet access and word processing are not allowed on the law library computer.
- Use of the Library printer is limited to 20 pages per patron per day. Copy machines are not available for public use.
- No meetings may be held in the Library without the permission of the library clerk.
- The Library Clerk is NEVER permitted to give legal advice to the public.
- The office supplies, documents, tools, equipment, telephones and personal materials found on the desks of Law Library personnel are off-limits to non-court personnel.
- Food is not permitted in the Law Library. Drinks are permitted in all areas except the area surrounding the computer workstation.
- The Law Library is open during the regular hours of Courthouse operation, 8 :00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Law Library will be closed on all Court Holidays. The Law Library Clerk is generally available between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 ยท p.m. on days the Law Library is open. The Law Library may be closed on occasions when the Library Clerk is unavailable or when official meetings are taking place.
- Law Library personnel CANNOT provide access to the security corridor. Individuals seeking access must use the telephone located near the doorway to the security corridor.
